Centre of Excellence – Introduction to UK Law Diploma Course

Beginning with a brief introduction to English Law, you’ll learn about the nature of law, the role it plays in society, and the differences between law and morality. From there, we’ll examine several areas of law.

We’ll explore the principles of contract law and how contracts are formed and disputed. We’ll look at civil law (also called tort law) and how this can create a duty of care between different parties, along with remedies and defences for breaches of tort. The course’s study of criminal law explains the necessary elements for criminal activity and behaviour, the sources of criminal law and the criminal justice system. We’ll explore Probate and the Law of Inheritance, covering the differences between dying with, and without, a will in place, along with who inherits – the Law of Succession – and inheritance tax. The course also covers the ownership and transfer of land, rights over land, the role of the Land Registry and the concept of tenancies.

The Introduction to UK Law Diploma Course examines the science of criminal behaviour (criminology), which looks at the psychology of crime and why crimes occur. You’ll be provided with an overview of the English Legal System, its foundations and how it has developed using statute and common law. We’ll examine human rights in our society, and within the broader picture of international law, and take a look at European Law, including the foundation of the European Union and the impact of Brexit.
