So let’s go back to October 14th, 2004 — the day I realized that if I didn’t change the way I understood human behavior, I was going to keep getting it wrong when it mattered most.
I was 24 years old, stationed overseas, and living inside a military structure where mistakes didn’t just cost time — they cost lives.
I had received traditional behavioral training.
I had limited ability to see past the surface.
And I had no idea how much I didn’t know about human nature.
And then my best friend — someone I trained with, someone I trusted — was killed in action because of bad intelligence. Because someone misread a person. Because a signal was missed.

…I know, because I tried.
…I gave it everything I had.
