As a college student with over $200K in debt, dropping $10K on a luxury flight to visit my grandparents in Tokyo was NOT an option.
So I did what most people do in this situation and accepted that I just wasn’t cut out for luxury travel.

8 years ago, I had a credit card with some basic cashback benefits.
You know, for every 100 points you get 1 cent in cash – nothing too exciting.
After racking up some reward points on that card…
I cashed out for about $900 and booked an economy flight to Japan.

Little did I know that I had just made a VERY costly mistake.
